Obituary of Jeanette S. Brooks

Jeanette S. Brooks, 92 of Ransomville wife of Philo J. Brooks entered into rest on Sunday May 12, 2019 in the Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, NY.

 

Born in Ransomville, NY on May 15, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Leon and the late Marion (Burnett) Sanger. Jeanette graduated from Wilson High School, graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a bachelor’s degree and went on to obtain her master’s degree in Elementary Education and science. She married Philo J. Brooks on April 16, 1949 and have been married for 70 years. Jeanette was a 1st grade teacher for the Lew-Port School District teaching at the Youngstown red brick schoolhouse.

 

Jeanette joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Niagara Falls Chapter, in 1976.  She has held numerous offices and committees including chapter regent, treasurer, recording secretary, NY State Conference Chairman, and NY State Registrar.   In 1995, she was named NY’s Outstanding Chapter Regent, and in 2007, the chapter elected her as an Honorary Chapter Regent.  Jeanette was also a member of the United States Daughters of 1812 in which she served as president of the local Niagara Frontier Chapter, president of the State of NY Society, and Recording Secretary National of the National Society.  For outstanding service, she was elected in Washington, D.C., as an Honorary President National, representing the State of NY.   In addition to the DAR and the U.S.D. of 1812, she was a member of several other patriotic and lineage organizations.  Jeanette had a love for genealogy, history, and patriotism. 

 

Surviving is her husband Philo; daughters, Phila (James) Ibaugh and Jan (Jack) Johnpier; a sister, Shirley ( Late Douglas) Canfield and her brother Glenn J. Sanger; grandchildren Rachel (Carl) Johnson, Jay Ibaugh and Brooke Johnpier; great grandchildren Venla and Marita Johnson.

 

NO PRIOR VISIATION. A memorial service will be held on FRIDAY (May 17, 2019) at 12:00 pm in the Ransomville United Methodist Church, 2573 Youngstown Lockport Rd., Ransomville, NY 14131.Internment will be private in North Ridge Cemetery.
