It was a pleasure to serve with George on the Albert Whitted Airport Advisory Committee in St. Petersburg, his winter home. George's aviation experience helped secure the future of the airport "right in his backyard." God bless you, George

We new him as "Sunny" George his Dad was married to my husbands Grandmother Terresa. I loved my husbands (Bob Knowles) grandparents very much. since we lived in Florida I did not see Sunny often, but he was a very nice man. I am so sorry for your loss. I heard that Bob was a CPA and lives in Tampa, close to me, I would very much like to connect with him since he is so close. He was going to pay for my husbands college education until he married. If he is still with us please let him know I would love to see him. My number is 352-279-5182. Jan & Bob Knowles. My thoughts are with your family.

Al and Dawn Leake posted a condolence
George and I finished advanced multi engine pilot training Dec. 15, 1950 and were stationed at Westover AFB, Springfield, Ma. We were augmented crews in 1951 flying C-54 to Thule, Greenland with stops at Goose Bay, Labrador and BW-8 (Thunderstorm) Late fall of 1951 after Thule changed from 4500 gravel strip to 11,000 paved runway, I had the privilege of being on Captain Chauncy Pate and George Hof's crew. We were heading southbound from Thule to Westover AFB, Ma. and it was a 15 1/2 flight time. You had to climb up to 11 or 12 thousand feet over the Baffin Islands. Chauncy Pate, 2 navigators and 1 radio operator, 1 flight mechanic and I were on the empty floor on an army blanket in a hot game of "Hearts". George strolled in and joined in the game and we all presumed George had checked out the lone radio operator up front how to use the auto pilot. Rest well my friend. Al Leake
I first met George and Anne while Al and I were with our 4 boys on a motorhome trip and we stopped by their home in Buffalo, N.Y. Anne outdid herself by treating us to a wonderful brisket barbque. We were living in Miami so didn't see much of them over the years but we did keep our Christmas cards and letters going for over 50 years. We met them twice at Air Force reunions; once in Oklahoma and once in Seattle. Our last visit with them was 11 years ago when we went to Rochester, N.Y. to help celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The world has lost two very special people, but now they rest together in the arms of our Loving Savior. God bless your two wonderful parents. Dawn Leake

My late husband, Robert Sandor, was a Flight Engineer
with American Airlimes amd was
a long-time admirer of George.
I learned quite a few names that were on Bob's favorite
list and, rest assured, I heard George's name often. I
met him at a few Golden Wings
conventions (brief encounters)
but he always seemed glad to
see Bob. The "old guard" with
AA was a tight group and Bob
always talked like if you went
to George with any problem he
was able to advise you. And,
most importantly, my husband
said George was a square shooter. I'm sure they're up
there on a 707 Cloud, talking
airplanes and, that, somehow,
makes me content.
My deepest sympathy to you all.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your father. I only knew George and Ann as the kind couple who walked by my house in Youngstown every morning together. I looked forward to every spring for their return from Florida, they took the time to stop and chat over the years. He informed me of Ann's illness and I was not aware of her passing until seeing George's obituary today. I am at a loss for words. please know that they touched my heart as I lost both my parents in their 50 s some 25 years ago. Youngstown is a sad place to be today and I will miss them both!</3
