Alvin C. Ogg, 79, of Lewiston, New York passed away September 18, 2013 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family and under the devoted and compassionate care of the staff at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home. He was born on June 13, 1934 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania, the only child of the late Alvin W. and Margaret (Ellyette) Ogg. He was predeceased by the love of his life Donna H. Ogg after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughters Diane L. (Mark) Johnson of Lewiston, New York, and Cynthia L. (Michael) Kline of Grand Island, New York. He was the loving and proud grandfather (Poppy) of Stephen O. and Kaitlyn L. Johnson and K. Cole Kline. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda H. and Rowland I.C. New of New Market, Maryland and several nieces and nephews. Al was graduated from Wilkinsburg Senior High School in 1952 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1956 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. It was there he met his sweetheart Donna and they were married on August 10, 1957. In 1956 Al moved to Niagara Falls, New York to begin a career with Union Carbide Corporation, Carbon Products Division. He was transferred to Parma, Ohio in 1965 and returned to Niagara Falls in 1969. During his career he held several positions with UCAR Carbon retiring in 1999 as plant manager. Professionally he was a member of the American Management Association, a committee member of the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, a member of the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce, the Niagara Falls Citizens Management Advisory Board, and was also on the executive committee of the Ecumenical Taskforce of Love Canal. Al was elected to serve as Lewiston Town Councilman from 1980 to 1988. In 1983 he was honored as Lewiston Democrat of the Year. His greatest joy in life came from helping others. He was a trustee, elder, and deacon at both the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston and Youngstown. He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and was a member of the choir and Fix-It Club at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. Al was a staunch advocate for environmental issues as evidenced in all facets of his life. He loved spending time with his family vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina walking on the beach, fishing, and visiting the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, especially with his cherished grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 2, at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown at 11:00 am with the Reverend Dr. Rex T. Stewart and Reverend Dr. Charles F. Lamb officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Oakland Rural Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston Flowers are gratefully declined.
